Note that this article is an unboxing review of the Tecno Spark K7, and a comprehensive review will follow soon. However, I’ve included an Antutu benchmark test to provide early buyers with a basis for comparison, specifically in terms of processor performance. If you’re eager for a more in-depth analysis, I encourage you to wait for the full review. But if you’re looking for a sneak peek.
What’s in The Box?
My review unit arrived in a vibrant orange box with minimal branding, subtly featuring the Tecno Mobile logo. The bold ‘SPARK’ label took center stage, setting the tone for a sleek and modern design. Upon opening the box, I was surprised to find the 5.5-inch device wrapped in an additional orange screen protector. Initially, I thought Tecno had sent the wrong color variant, as the packaging indicated a Phantom Black device. However, to my delight, the device itself was indeed black, cleverly concealed in the orange packaging – a clever marketing move that added to the unboxing excitement
Deep into the box, I saw:
- The box contents include:
– A 1.2A white charger
– A white USB 2.0 cord
– The standard Tecno wired earpiece (similar in design to Infinix earpieces)
– A TPU silicon case for added protection and grip
– And, of course, the Tecno Spark K7 device itself
Tecno Spark K7 Look and Feel
The design of the Tecno Spark K7 draws inspiration from premium Chinese devices like the OnePlus 5 or UMIdigi, as well as the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. As soon as you hold the device, you’ll notice the sleek, premium-looking antenna lines on the top and bottom, reminiscent of the OnePlus 5. You might even think, “Wow, this device has a premium metal design!” But, surprisingly, it’s not metal at all. The phone’s body is actually made of plastic, both front and back, with the exception of the glass screen and the metal panel covering the 3000mAh battery (more on that in the full review).
Upon closer inspection of our black unit, we can see that the black glass panel covering the front of the device conceals some subtle design elements. At the top of the screen, we notice the 5-megapixel front-facing camera, strategically positioned between the earpiece grill and the front-facing LED flash on the left, and the ambient sensor and notification light on the right. Meanwhile, at the base of the screen, we find the traditional Android capacitive navigation keys, although they are not illuminated.
The right-hand side of the Tecno Spark K7 features a thoughtfully designed layout, with the power button situated below the volume rockers. Additionally, you’ll find a 3.5mm audio jack at the top, a USB 2.0 port, and a mouthpiece at the base level. In contrast, the left-hand side is intentionally left blank, providing a clean and minimalist look. Moving to the rear, the device boasts a striking resemblance to the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, with a dual camera setup – although, in this case, the secondary camera is replaced by a single LED flash, complementing the main 13-megapixel camera.
Located just below the camera is the rear-facing fingerprint scanner, followed by the Tecno logo. At the base of the device, you’ll find the device’s loudspeaker, strategically positioned to the right. Upon removing the rear panel, you’ll discover a non-removable 3000mAh battery, as well as three dedicated slots – two for SIM cards and one for a microSD card, allowing for expandable storage options.
Tecno Spark K7 Antutu Benchmark
Using the Antutu benchmark app, I was able to verify some key specifications of the Tecno Spark K7, including the processor, which is indeed the Mediatek MT6580 32-bit Cortex-A7 quad-core processor, clocked at 1.3GHz. This is paired with 16 GB of internal storage and 1 GB of RAM, among other features (see images below). Notably, this contradicts the octa-core processor listed on Tecno’s website, which I will investigate further via email. It’s possible that the 2GB RAM version or the higher-end Tecno Spark K9 model, rumored to be powered by the Mediatek MT6753 octa-core processor, may be the source of this discrepancy. I will clarify these details in the full review.
The Tecno Spark K7 exudes a satisfying overall look and feel, particularly the subtly textured back panel, which provides a secure grip. While I’m pleased with my initial impressions, I’ll be using the device for a few more days to fully explore its features and performance. Stay tuned for my comprehensive review, where I’ll share my in-depth thoughts and final verdict. Please join us for the full review.
