Short-supply employees in Poland

Poland’s labour market is facing a shortage of skilled workers. The demand for workers is higher than supply, which forces companies to rethink their business model. The forestry industry, for example, is suffering from a critical shortage of skilled workers. Companies are turning to pre-fabricated elements, extending working hours and training women in traditionally male jobs. According to staffing firm Trenkwalder Poland, there are currently over 50,000 logistics job vacancies. The majority of these positions are for forklift drivers. The construction sector in Poland employs approximately 4,80,000 foreign workers. Four in five of these workers come from Ukraine. Since the war began on February 24, almost half of the Ukrainians living in Poland have departed, further compounding the short-supply of labour in this sector.

Short-supply employees in the IT sector

Poland’s IT sector is experiencing a severe shortage of workers. There are many vacancies for programmers, desktop software developers, and mobile app developers. In February, IT specialists in Poland saw their wage rises increase by the joint largest nominal percentage year-on-year. In addition, Poland is actively trying to recruit foreign IT specialists. It has become the home of about 10% of Belarus’s ICT specialists, and two-fifths of those workers are considering moving to Poland.

However, this talent shortage is particularly complex in Poland. According to the 2022 Talent Trends research by Randstad Sourceright, 46% of employers plan to hire extensively in Poland. In addition, one in four employers expect to compete with other countries for the best talent. This will make it difficult for employers to attract the right talent.

Companies are seeking alternatives to permanent hiring. This can include using contingent workers, outsourcing, and freelancers. Furthermore, companies should consider contingent workers’ experience. If they fail to do this, they risk losing critical skills that are needed by the company.

Short-supply employees in the manual labour sector

The labour market in Poland has undergone significant changes in the last few years. The country has seen a steady increase in foreign investments and is seeking more workers to expand its economy and create favorable labour market conditions. However, there are currently many unemployed Polish citizens. In mid-April, 62 thousand employers had commissioned these workers, and the numbers are increasing. The majority of these workers were performing simple labour tasks. Only nine thousand people were involved in industrial work, while another 6.4 thousand worked in the sales sector. Moreover, 2.5 thousand people were specialists in the service sector.

The government has implemented several measures to simplify administrative procedures for firms and introduce digital public services, but some weaknesses remain in the legal and regulatory framework. Many investors are disappointed with the lack of predictability and the disproportionate role of state-owned and state-controlled companies. However, the country’s broad structure remains solid.

Short-supply employees in the teaching sector

In a period of economic instability, Poland faces a critical shortage of teachers. However, the government has taken steps to counter the problem, including new anti-inflationary measures, including increased fiscal spending and reduced tax revenue. As a result, the shortage will likely worsen in the years ahead.

The Polish government has taken steps to simplify administrative procedures for businesses and has introduced digital public services. However, weak areas of the legal and regulatory framework remain, dampening investor confidence in some sectors. In addition, the country’s outsized role of state-controlled and state-owned companies is a source of skepticism. Nonetheless, the country’s broad structures are stable.

The shortage is partially due to the influx of foreign companies, with 48% of workers receiving job offers from abroad. Meanwhile, remote work has increased the demand for IT specialists. As a result, IT specialists saw their salaries rise in February, with an average increase of 503 zloty (EUR110).
